The Fennec Fox (Vulpes zerda): a small nocturnal animal that lives in the Sahara in North Africa and is most well known for its enormous ears. Living in the desert, these large ears are used to dissipate heat. Besides their ears, this species is the smallest in the canid group and is specially adapted to its hot, dry climate. It survives off insects, birds and small mammals. They are very cute and have been been taken as exotic pets by many in the region. They are expensive though because the breeders take the young from their mother and hand-rear the young to encourage a more docile and handleable pet. Whether a pet or in the wild, they certainly are adorable.
